Pittsburg Farmer’s Market Kid’s Day

Want to know what I love about farmer’s markets?? The people!! Gosh, it doesn’t matter which one you go to, the market is full of genuinely sweet people who love to help! Pittsburg Farmer’s Market was no different! Even if I am a little biased since I spent SO much time in Pittsburg (Go’rillas!), I thoroughly enjoyed doing a market demo for their kid’s day today. Pittsburg also has a brand new pavilion for the market – this is their first season in the new building!

Every third Saturday, the farmer’s market offers a Kid’s Day where area children can come enjoy some crafts, food, games, etc. I think it is wonderful that they do something to entertain the children. My children love the farmer’s market without any crafts but today they really enjoyed themselves. I even get to sport a new bead bracelet that my sweet babies made me! Today the market offered some a variety of crafts for the kids. They could make beaded bracelets, color pictures, or make windsocks. From what I could tell, the kids had a great time!

Today, I served up some Garden Veggie Pizza. I made a gluten free pizza crust. We topped it with ranch dressing and the kids got to add their veggies. I’ve made this before for the blog – find the recipe here! What I love about serving this dish, is that you can easily customize it for the veggies you like. Today, I got great produce to top the pizzas with from local farmers. Huge thanks to Trent at the Kling Family Orchard for sponsoring the dish and also Darren at the Swartz Locally Grown Produce for providing the veggies. To top the pizzas, we used fresh tomatoes, broccoli, cucumbers and sweet peppers.

I had a really great time meeting everyone at the market today. A huge thanks to Dana Parsons of Big Cookie Bakery for organizing Kid’s Day and allowing me to be apart of it! I hope to do this again in the near future! I encourage all of my readers to check out their local farmer’s market to get local, fresh, quality goods! If you go to Pittsburg, you can not only expect great food and homemade items, but a great atmosphere and friendly hospitality! What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning!2014-07-19 09.50.11
