Pecan Pear Bake

Okay, those that think you can’t have a delicious, nutritious dessert without sugar will be easily persuaded by this recipe. This recipe is one of those that just kind of fell together at the last minute. I bought some wonderful looking Bartlett pears at a local store (like a box of 12). Well, they started to spoil quickly – like in a matter of a couple days. I had to salvage whatever I could so that these tasty beauties did not go to waste (our house = minimum waste). I cut up pieces that I could keep and threw them in a baking dish. I was feeling a pear crisp type dish but didn’t want the hassle of making a crumb topping and I’m working on eliminating all added sugars (doctors orders). This dish is amazing. The sweetness of the pears and raisins give the dessert plenty of flavor and the crunchy pecans add texture. Don’t skip on the spices either! And don’t save this just for dessert – it makes a great breakfast too! Makes about 4-6 servings

Pecan Pear Bake

2 cups pear slices
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground cloves

In a baking dish, combine all ingredients and mix until coated with spices. Bake at 325F for about 30 minutes or until pears are soft. That’s it… no sugar, no honey, no agave, no oil, just natural ingredients. You are welcome.
