Now that cold and flu season is approaching, our family is on the “wash your hands”, “don’t touch that”, “cover your mouth” kind of discussions. I feel a little redundant but when you have an autoimmune condition, you kind of have to watch everything and do your best to prevent any germs. My doctor recommended that we all take some elderberry extract or drink elderberry tea, etc. as it provides immune system support. The biggest problem with that is that I HATE the taste! I was taking the recommended “shot” of it and then chase it with some orange juice. I liked it that way so I decided to turn it into a smoothie!
1 cup ice cubes
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup coconut water
1 Tbsp elderberry extract
1 tsp plain protein powder (optional)
Combine all ingredients into a blender or Magic Bullet and mix!
