Last year, I started teaching PSR – for those non-Catholics, that is basically our Sunday school program, except it is on Wednesday’s. I had always wanted to teach and this seemed like a great opportunity to achieve that want on a small scale. However, I learned much more than I ever imagined. My first year I learned just how organized you need to be and how challenging teaching two second graders about First Communion & Reconciliation can be! I also learned so much about the kids and myself. It was a very rewarding experience and I’m so glad I could come back for a second year. This year, I again have two kids in second grade. What I love about PSR is that the entire program is like one big family. We begin each class with a meal provided by someone in our parish. We then either have group activities or break into our classes. Tonight, we had a parish potluck dinner. Last week, the kids and teachers cleaned, decorated, made placemats, etc.
One of my husband’s many talents is smoking meats. Surprising to both of us, he got the “knack” of it pretty quick and can make some good food!! We decided to provide most of the meat for the dinner. He smoked some pork for pulled pork and we also provided plates, cups, utensils. It honestly doesn’t seem like much at all for us. I know he enjoyed making the food and we hope everyone enjoyed eating it! I also brought a modified version of my Gluten Free Black Forest Brownies… one of my personal favorites 🙂
Day 4 of Family Time:
I really try to do things that each one in our family will love. Just like yesterday, the kids and I really enjoyed the cookbook – hubby wasn’t real impressed. However, today’s family time gift is one I’m sure he will enjoy. Battleship! Secretly one of my favorite games too. I actually was able to get several games on sale at Wal-Mart and Amazon so that makes these gifts even greater! My little girl is even excited about this one – as long as we can keep her from stealing all the game pieces….
