Cranberry Chicken Wings

I’ve been wanting to make a tasty recipe using chicken wings. My husband likes hot foods but I steer clear so sometimes we have to meet in the middle. This version uses a sweet and tangy, cranberry sauce over spicy rubbed wings. It’s a wonderful combination especially for the holidays. These make a great holiday appetizer or even game day dish! What’s even better is that they are made in the slow cooker for an easy dish! This recipe is for about 4 lbs of wings

Cranberry Wings

4 lbs wings
1 cup cranberries
1 apple, chopped
1 orange, zested and juiced
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup honey
1 Tbsp soy sauce or coconut aminos
1/2 cup water
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp minced garlic
1/4 cup arrowroot starch (or corn starch)
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp chipotle powder
1/2 tsp ground cumin
In a saucepan, combine cranberries, apple, orange, cinnamon, honey, soy sauce, pepper, garlic and water. Bring to a boil and simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until fruit is soft. In a large bowl, mix together arrowroot starch, chili powder, salt, chipotle powder and cumin. Add in wings and toss to coat in breading mixture. Place wings in slow cooker and add in sauce mixture. Toss wings to coat and slow cook on high for about 4 hours. Once the slow cooker is finished, place wings on a baking sheet. Bake at 400F for about 10 minutes just to give the wings a more caramelized sauce.
