Bulletproof Double Chai Tea

If you pay attention to the Paleo, primal food news, you’ll have likely heard of bulletproof coffee. Basically it’s a strong coffee, combined with butter (yes, butter), a little coconut oil and some flavorings if desired. There’s a lot of controversy to the healthy benefits of it. For example, some say it’s a great energy boost in the mornings as giving your body fat (butter/oil) first will sort of “trick” your body into using fat stores throughout the day. Others say the high amounts of fat first thing is not good for you. As with anything – there’s mixed opinions. My personal opinion is that a little fat won’t hurt. I’ve actually learned that quantities of GOOD fats can help provide energy and also for healing. I’m not a coffee drinker but I do love tea – especially chai. I decided to try this new trend with my favorite tea. Results – odd. The taste of a buttery cup of tea is a little strange to me.. not bad… just strange. The main point is to make sure you are using quality butter and oil. I used a high quality grass-fed ghee (casein free) and coconut oil. Give it a try and let me know what you think!! I’m still on the fence about it so I’ll be trying it often! Makes 1 serving

bulletproof double chai tea

8-10 oz water
2 bags of chai tea 
2 tsp grass-fed ghee
1 tsp coconut oil (my favorite here)
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp raw honey (optional)
In a saucepan, bring water to boil. Add in tea bags and let steep about 10 minutes (over low heat). Add in ghee or butter, oil, vanilla, cinnamon and honey. Using an immersion blender, blend mixture for about a minute or until frothy. Pour into a mug and enjoy!!
