Smoothies and I have a love/hate relationship. My body loves them, my mind & taste buds hate them. I think a lot of the spite comes from the fact that I HAD to drink them to heal my body starting out. Let’s face it… I don’t like HAVING to do something that I didn’t choose to 🙂 That being said – if I find a smoothie recipe that I do actually like, it’s totally worth sharing. My smoothies are simple and customizable to fit your needs. Trying to lose weight? I don’t suggest smoothies by themselves BUT they can be a good meal replacement. You may not want the added calories of oils, fats, etc. Post workout smoothie? You may want that extra scoop of peanut butter or protein powder to help build muscle. Whatever the case -pick your add-ins as you want! Disclaimer: the majority of my smoothies include greens (although you’d never taste it!). This makes 1 smoothie
1 large sweet apple, peeled and sliced (I used Red Delicious)
1 cup spinach or kale leaves
1/2 banana, peeled
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup almonds
1 cup coconut milk or almond milk
1/2 cup ice, optional
Optional Add-ins: Vanilla protein powder, Barlean’s Flax Oil, coconut flakes, honey, etc.
In a blender, combine ingredients and blend until very smooth (at least a minute). It takes a bit to get those greens and almonds blended so you can’t see them. Top with additional cinnamon if desired.
